This study investigated the impact of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) knowledge, local wisdom, and farmer motivation on farmer behavior in IPM within Palu, Central Sulawesi. A causative multivariate analysis method was employed, incorporating path analysis for explanatory purposes, and an expost facto correlational research design was executed. Data were systematically and standardly collected via structured questionnaires and observational tests. Both descriptive and inferential analysis techniques were employed for the evaluation of the collected data. A sample of 115 horticultural farmers across six villages in Palu City was selected through a simple proportional sampling method. The study findings suggest a direct influence on farmer behavior in IPM from IPM knowledge (2.43%), local wisdom (2.13%), and farmer motivation (37.45%). Furthermore, evidence was found of significant increases in IPM behavior via motivation, from 2.43% to 4.24% with respect to IPM knowledge and from 2.13% to 6.10% concerning local wisdom. The study concludes that enhancements in IPM behavior could be achieved through bolstering IPM knowledge, local wisdom, and farmer motivation. These findings have implications for the improvement of integrated pest control practices among farmers.

Farmers struggle to combat uncertain climate issues while encountering pressure on conventional farming practices that lead to carbon emissions, water and soil pollution, and other environmental harms. A growing body of literature investigated circular economy and sustainable practices to support environmental-friendly agriculture activities while providing opportunities for farmers to improve their farm income. Therefore, a study synthesizing previous literature while identifying actual policy to boost farmers’ implementation of sustainable agriculture is worthwhile. Using the Systematic Literature Review analysis, this paper aims to identify farmers’ views on climate change adaptation and mitigation, challenges in implementing circular economy and sustainable practices, and policies to support farmers’ transition toward sustainable agriculture in developed and developing countries. We found that (1) farmers’ awareness of climate change, knowledge and skills are prominent for adapting and mitigating climate change in both types of countries, (2) farmland size, risks of income loss, and training and extension services influenced farmers’ adaptation and mitigation strategies for climate change in developing countries, (3) farmers in both types of countries experienced uncertainty in economic profits and legislative issues when adopting sustainable practices, while farmers in developing countries issued significant up-front expenses to acquire technology to adopt sustainable practices, (4) financial access and incentives through policy can be valuable to develop sustainable livelihoods, especially for farm households.

Attaining agricultural sustainability and eliminating poverty are the key challenges of rural areas. Non-farm income diversification is a vital livelihood strategy that endorses sustainable agriculture and alleviates poverty. Considering the land degradation and poor economic situation of Pakistan's rain-fed areas, the current research examined the potential effects of non-farm income diversification on household poverty and adopting soil and water conservation (SWC) technologies. A survey of 441 farmers was conducted in rain-fed areas of Punjab, Pakistan, and for econometric analysis, the propensity score matching (PSM) technique was employed to explore the objectives. The results signified that diversified farmers were more likely to adopt SWC practices and were less vulnerable to poverty. The findings suggest that farmer-based organizations and agricultural extension activities must be strengthened as they support non-farm income diversification, thus facilitating investment in soil and water conservation technologies and reducing poverty.
