Post-Smart Tourism Destinations (PSTD) need a sense-of-place approach based on uniqueness and thematic differentiation to deliver authentic and valuable experiences. Information and communication technology (ICT), digital technology adoption, sustainable development, community empowerment and local wisdom, and destination uniqueness are keywords that will be further explored in the development of tourism villages in Kenderan as the most important tourism destination development at the village level. The development of smart tourism, proof of the disruption of digital technology in the tourism sector, has become the objective of almost every tourism destination in the world today, be it an urban or rural area. Since its initial emergence, the smart concept in tourism development has evolved. In the beginning, it focused on ICT and the adoption of digital technology. Along with the pressure of the global requirement to apply sustainable development, the focus of smart tourism later included sustainability in the application of smart technology, which made smart tourism development (STD) become smart and sustainable tourism development (SSTD). The post-smart tourism concept arose because many critics suggested that destinations tend to place too much focus on technology adoption and lack attention to local wisdom, inclusivity, and local indigenous aspects of destination development. Applied research implemented mixed methods in the form of qualitative research through expert judgment and quantitative research through structural equation modeling analysis. The results of this research show that creative events for the local aspects of a tourist village, digital competence, and sustainability practice are the building blocks for a post-smart tourism village, while digital competence and sustainable practice have a significant mediating effect of locality on post-smart tourism villages. To ensure a tourism village possesses sustainable competitive advantages, the village must explore and promote its locality aspects to differentiate itself as a tourist village by identifying its valuable, rare, inimitable, and non-substitutable tourism resources. The implication of this research is that to develop wise and distinctive smart tourism destinations, tourist villages should explore their local values and resources, embed them into their basic components and core resources of tourism, and co-create, distribute, deliver, and promote them to the global market through technology adoption and global sustainability value.

Background: Bariatric surgery is often regarded as the gold standard treatment for obesity. However, the long-term success of this intervention depends not only on the procedure itself but also on subsequent behavioral and psychological adaptations. Objective:This study aimed to in-depth explore the behavioral and psychological factors influencing weight gain or loss among participants three years post-bariatric surgery. Methods: Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study combined descriptive quantitative and interpretative qualitative methodologies to achieve a comprehensive analysis. Data were collected through questionnaires for quantitative insights and in-depth interviews for qualitative exploration. This methodological integration allowed for a thorough examination of a wide range of variables affecting post-surgical weight management. Results: The findings revealed a wide variance in the percentage of weight regain among participants, ranging up to 89.0% of the lowest weight achieved post-surgery. Almost half of the participants with obesity perceive themselves as overweight rather than with obesity. The majority of participants did not change their lifestyle after the surgery. Seventy-five percent are not following any nutritional or dieting programs, and only less than 12% engage in any physical activity, with a higher level of sedentary lifestyle. Conclusion: These results revealed the complex interplay of factors that influence weight management after surgical intervention. The recurrence of obesity among the participants was primarily attributed not to the surgical procedures themselves but to insufficient postoperative behavioral changes, underscoring the necessity for integrated support systems focusing on lifestyle modifications and psychological support to enhance long-term surgical outcomes.

Porters diamond model and Zimbabwes national competitiveness in the cut flower industry

Zimbabwe's cut flower industry has declined over the past years. We determined the national competitiveness of Zimbabwe's cut flower industry using Porter's diamond model of competitive advantage in 2018 using a descriptive and exploratory design that made use of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Low numbers of key players in the industry forced researchers to administer questionnaires to only 20 respondents comprising growers, marketers, florists, and associations. There was a relationship between factor conditions and national competitiveness (Chisquare 47.9728; df = 25; and p <0.0029). There was no significant relationship between strategy and national competitiveness (Chi-square 21.3916; DF 15; p-value > 0.1248). There was a relationship between government and national competitiveness (Chi-square 20.6350; DF 10; p-value 0.0238). There was no relationship between chance and national competitiveness (Chi-square 6.8190; df 5; p-value =0.2344). Strategy, structure, rivalry, demand conditions, related and supporting industries, and chance had no statistically significant relationship with the national competitiveness of the industry. Centralised decision making and lack of government intervention make the industry fail to be competitive. To revive the industry, the availability and utilization of factor conditions, particularly skilled marketing personnel, should be increased. Government policies should support the industry so that it is competitive.
