Any sex work involving the exchange of money or goods/gifts (i.e. commercial sexual activity) and prostitution in all forms and names are illegal in Nepal. Many issues and violence have been documented as a result of sexual labor in such areas, mainly against female sexual workers (FSWs). This study aimed to explore the lived experiences of violence and the related health issues among FSWs in Kathmandu. A descriptive phenomenological research design was followed where the participants provided their informational experience about violence. The nature of the information was qualitative and subjective, and based on the interpretivism paradigm. The study reveals that verbal aggressions, physical violence, sexual harassment, assault, and other forms of violence are the primary experiences faced by FSWs, along with health issues like STIs, Hepatitis, vaginal infections, backaches, stress, depression, and chronic fatigue. Lived experiences illustrate the opportunities and skills for earning a living via work that could be planned and executed at the federal, provincial, and local levels of government. Similarly, if someone wants to alter their employment or sex trade, rehabilitation is required. It is critical to put in place certain focused measures and policies to safeguard the safety, self-esteem, and financial stability of FSWs.

A Mimic Model Approach for Impact Assessment of Mining Activities on Sustainable Development Indicators

Mining activities are usually associated with negative outcomes. Therefore, it is crucial to identify and assess these outcomes by the mining company to achieve proper management. The present study has been defined to discover the outcomes of mining activities and their testing in one of the open pit mines of Iran. The present research has been defined into two sections, qualitative and quantitative. The corresponding data of the qualitative section were derived through analysis of the hidden contents of semi-structured interviews with experts and a review of the literature using the Maxqda 2022 software in the forms of open coding and axial coding. In the quantitative section of the study, data were collected via the standard questionnaire and analyzed using the SPSS26 and Mplus software. By coding the interviews and existing documents, 62 primary codes were extracted and classified into 5 main criteria (environmental, health, social, economic, and cultural) in the form of axial coding. The analysis results of the collected questionnaires showed that mining activities had the highest impact on the environment (86.32) and individual health (80.86), while the lower impact was on their economic situation (54.55). The findings of this study showed that there is a significant difference between men and women in terms of the environmental (p = 0.013) and economic (p = 0.01) indicators. While men believed that the mining activity had caused permanent environmental impacts on their living area, women recognized the mining activities as the cause of economic weakness in their families. Results from the present study could be effective in formulating the controlling strategies for potential negative outcomes of mining and achieving effective sustainable development.

Everyone has their rights from birth, but not everyone has the same degree of freedom as everyone else, especially if they belong to a minority group. Because of this, women have always been subject to male power and marginalized in all aspects. Due to disappointment toward the gender differences and objectification, many women fall into a profession that is considered taboo and dishonorable by society, that is as a prostitute. This article focuses on the feminist studies regarding women and how they ultimately choose the path of prostitution at last as experienced by the two main characters, that are Firdaus in Women at Point Zero and Nidah Kirani in Tuhan Izinkan Aku Menjadi Pelacur. This article aims to compare and describe women's issues related to prostitution in two different countries, which are Egypt and Indonesia. These two countries have the same religious background because both of them have a majority of Muslim population. To complement the research, a comparative literary approach is also employed to identify the similarities and differences to find the factor that determines the female characters to become sex worker. The results indicate that both of the novels tell the life story of a woman who chose to become a prostitute due to their disappointment in man. Despite the similarity, family issues are a significant contributing factor to Firdaus's becoming a sex worker. As for Nidah Kirani in Tuhan Izinkan Aku Menjadi Pelacur the failure to deal with certain issues effectively. Kirani’s belief in God and the Islamic organization that she thought would show her the real Islam has misled her and because of her disappointment, she turned to be a sex worker.
