Abstract:Background: Up to half of children with new onset type 1 diabetes present to hospital in diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition which can develop as a result of diagnostic delay. Three quarters of Australian children visit their general practitioner (GP) the week prior to presenting to hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis.
