Abstract:This article aims to explore the use of cross-impact balances (CIB) to identify scenarios of value change. The possibility of value change has received little attention in the literature on value-sensitive design (VSD). Examples of value change include the emergence of new values and changes in the relative importance of values. Value change could lead to a mismatch between values embedded in technology and the way they are currently considered in society. Such a mismatch could result in a lack of acceptabilit… Show more
“…Which simulation tool is most adequate depends on the simulation purpose [9] and on the extent to which the system modeled can be described quantitatively [34]. De Wildt and Schweizer [8] use cross-impact balances to identify scenarios of value change for digital voice assistants, and gene drive organisms.…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
