“…Our results do fall in line with previous research, which generally has failed to support the hypothesis that adding cognitive techniques aimed at panic attacks should prove to add substantial treatment effects, more than that achieved by exposure only (Bouchard et al, 1995;Burke et al, 1997). Only one study has found more substantial beneficial effects (Michelson et al, 1996), and one study (Williams & Falbo, 1996) showed inferior results in the cognitive condition.…”

“…Clear improvement in this outcome variable was noted in both conditions. Bouchard et al (1995) compared cognitive therapy to exposure in vivo plus interoceptive exposure. Treatment was provided in small groups for 15 sessions, and had an interesting feature in that the cognitive variety contained explicit recommendations as opposed to the repetition or prolongation of any exposure exercises.…”

“…In studies of panic disorder, CR alone can lead to a significant reduction in panic symptoms (Bouchard et al, 1996;Margraf & Schneider, 1991;see Gould, Otto, & Pollack, 1995), although exposure alone appears to be as effective as exposure plus CR (Bouchard et al, 1996;Öst, Thulin, & Ramnerö, 2004;van den Hout, Arntz, & Hoekstra, 1994). However for social anxiety, CR may play a more critical therapeutic role.…”

“…Contudo, a realização desta psicoterapia de forma inapropriada ou insuficiente pode gerar sintomas residuais. Um tratamento efetivo para TP deve perpassar por uma mudança cognitiva (Öst & Westling, 1994;Bouchard et al, 1996). Assim, quando se vincula o tratamento cognitivo a outra modalidade, há aumento no efeito dos resultados (Murphy et al, 1998).…”
