“…The expression analysis of genes encoding some lignocellulolytic enzymes and some regulatory genes by means of Reverse Transcriptase-PCR showed that eng1, eglA, eglB, eglC, exo, and xynB genes (coding for endoglucanases, a cellobiohydrolase, and a xylanase, respectively) are differentially expressed in biofilm fermentation either time-related or through the production of more than a transcript as compared to A. niger grown in SCF. Likewise, the regulatory genes xlnR (cellulase activator) and creA (cellulase repressor) showed time-related expression patterns that were different in both fermentation systems, indicating that a different regulatory system may act in biofilms [97]. Therefore, we have measured transcript synthesis for A. niger endoglucanase A (eglA) and cellobiohydrolase B (cbhB) genes as well as cellulase regulatory genes xlnR and creA at 72 h growth as biofilms on polyester cloth and lactose as carbon source, and found 3-to 4-fold higher expression of both cellulolytic enzyme genes than in submerged cultures while lower expression levels of both regulatory genes were attained in biofilms as compared to submerged cultures as showed in Fig.…”
