Expression and prognostic significance of Livin in gastric cancer

Abstract: Livin is one of the most important members of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein family. It is overexpressed in several types of tumors and may have prognostic significance. The present study investigated the biological role of Livin in the oncogenic behavior of gastric cancer cells, the expression of Livin in gastric cancer tissue and the relationship of its expression with various clinicopathological parameters and patient survival. Small interfering RNA blocked Livin gene expression in AGS and SNU638 human … Show more

“…Similarly, in a very recent multicentric study regarding a comprehensive genomic characterization of a large series of 80 ACC [39], the authors found a relatively high livin mRNA expression by RNA-sequencing (median log fold change = 5.96). All these findings suggest a potential major role of livin in the adrenocortical tumor development, as previously reported for other cancer types [1820, 29, 4042]. …”

“…We did not found any significant correlation between livin expression at both mRNA and protein levels, and the histopathological and/or clinical parameters, including the clinical outcome as observed in some [22, 27, 42], but not all other cancer types [20, 29, 44, 45]. Our results are in accordance to other recently published gene expression data in ACCs [39], where no significant relationship was observed between livin expression and overall survival ( p = 0.86 ).…”

“…Overexpression of Livin inhibits the apoptosis of tumor cells and leads to the resistance of tumors to pro-apoptotic factors (11,12). In addition, Livin is associated with the invasiveness of tumors and oncogenic phenotypes (13). These studies suggest that Livin is one potential targeting site for the therapy of bladder carcinoma.…”

“…Therefore, finding new targeting sites and enhancing chemotherapeutic sensitivity are critical for the therapy of bladder carcinoma. Previous studies indicated that Livin is not expressed or expressed at low levels in most differentiated terminal tissues of adults, but overexpressed in a number of malignant tumors (8)(9)(10). Overexpression of Livin inhibits the apoptosis of tumor cells and leads to the resistance of tumors to pro-apoptotic factors (11,12).…”
