Expression of cancer/testis antigens in salivary gland carcinomas with reference to MAGE‐A and NYESO‐1 expression in adenoid cystic carcinoma

Abstract: These findings suggest that CTAs may be expressed in a variety of salivary gland carcinomas, especially in those with higher histological grades. In addition, MAGE-A, which is frequently expressed in AdCC cases, may be a useful prognostic factor for poorer locoregional recurrence-free survival.

“…The high rate of PRAME expression and its selective expression pattern, whereby it is expressed solely in TCs, make PRAME a possible diagnostic tool for detecting malignancy, and a promising target for cancer vaccination in SDC patients. Besides the current study, Harada et al . also studied the rates of expression of the CTAs MAGE‐A, NY‐ESO‐1, CT6 and GAGE7 in a cohort of 95 cases of salivary gland carcinoma, including 12 SDC patients.…”

“…CTAs are common tumour antigens that are specifically expressed in many solid cancer types, including HNSCC and salivary gland carcinoma. 23,[51][52][53][54][55][56] The expression of CTAs in adult human organs is limited to immune-privileged sites, e.g. the testis and, for some CTAs, occasionally the placenta and the brain.…”

“…In addition, AKAP4, a scaffolding protein that regulates intracellular signaling, is aberrantly expressed in PCa and a potential target for PCa anti‐tumor vaccination or adoptive immunotherapy . The highly immunogenic and well‐characterized CTA, NY‐ESO‐1 , is also expressed in a proportion of localized PCa and hormone refractory PCa cases .…”
