Expression of CD10 and Cytokeratins in Ovarian and Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma

Abstract: A solid pattern of tumor cells with a clear cytoplasm is common to both ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OvCCC) and renal clear cell carcinoma (RCCC). This study examined the possible differential expression of CD10 and cytokeratins (CK7, CK20, 34betaE12, and CAM5.2) between these two types. An immunohistochemical technique using peroxidase-labeled amino acid polymers was used to test formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues. In OvCCC, 6 of 29 cases were positive for CD10, and all cases had expression of CK7,… Show more

“…In the study by Ohta et al. , 24/24 RCCs were immunopositive for CD10, but 9/24 were also positive for CK7 6 . In the present study, 10/17 RCCs were positive for CD10 antibody and 2/17 RCCs for CK7, but with only a few tumour cells stained.…”

“…For example, CD10 is helpful for the diagnosis of metastatic RCC, but it is expressed in many other primary or metastatic carcinomas. 26,29,[81][82][83][84] Although AMACR is expressed in almost all metastatic papillary RCCs, it is expressed by other carcinomas, most notably, prostate adenocarcinoma; PAX8 detects most metastatic RCCs but is seen in most mü llerian tumors and thyroid malignancies. 21 The available data suggest that the panel for evaluating potential metastatic RCC should include PAX2 or PAX8, and RCC marker or CD10, supplemented by other markers dictated by the affected organ and/or the type of nonrenal tumors that may coexist.…”
