“…MMP-26 expression had a trend to increase from T1 to T4, and this protease was significantly more often expressed in tumors having metastatic lymph nodes. Furthermore, MMP-26 often colocalized with cells positive for laminin-5, an indicator of invasiveness of pancreatic tumor cells, 48 thus linking this protease to aggressive behavior of pancreatic adenocarcinomas. However, a higher number of tumors would be required to definitely conclude whether MMP-26 could serve as a marker of metastasis in pancreatic cancer.…”

“…There is therefore a potential for misdiagnosing IPMC or IC-IPMC as MI-IPMC. Recently, other researchers have reported laminin-5-γ-2 or periostin as a useful marker for detecting invasive tumor cells in IPMNs, which might be associated with cancer-cell invasiveness (7,8). Pericellular proteolysis is crucial in tumor cell invasion.…”

“…It has been shown that laminin gamma 2 chain expression in the in situ component of intraductal papillarymucinous tumors (IPMTs) of the pancreas tends to increase with tumor development. 15 The expression of intraductal components in both intraductal growth type of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and IPMT had a similar pattern, which suggests that the cytoplasmic expression of carcinoma cells for laminin gamma 2 chain plays an important role in the progression from noninvasive intraductal tumor to an invasive tumor. Tumor invasion is the basic indicator for progression from premalignant to malignant tumors.…”

“…Other studies showed that the non-neoplastic tissue, including pancreatic duct, colonic mucosa and mammary duct, fails to demonstrate laminin gamma 2 by immunohistochemical approach and in situ hybridization. 8,15,16 Soini et al 16 suggested that the concentration of laminin gamma 2 in non-neoplastic duct is so low that it cannot be detected by immunohistochemistry.…”
