Expression of microRNA‑184 in glioma

Abstract: Abstract. The aim of the present study was to examine the expression of microRNA (miRNA)-184 in gliomas with different pathological grades, and its effect on survival prognosis. For the present study, 40 participants were selected with different pathological grades of glioma tissues with grade I (n=10), grade II (n=8), grade III (n=16), and grade IV (n=6). In addition, 10 cases of normal brain tissue (obtained by decompression because of traumatic brain injury) were selected. RT-PCR and immunohistochemical tec… Show more

“…The rno‐miR‐184 has dual functions in cancers. It is an onco‐miRNA in osteosarcoma (Du, Li, Wang, Huang, & Xu, ), squamous cell carcinoma of tongue (Wong et al, ), but acts as a tumour suppressor in colorectal cancer (Wu, Liu, Wu, Wu, & Yao, ), breast cancer (Fu et al, ), even acts as both onco‐miRNA (Wu et al, ) and suppressor miRNA in glioma (Cheng et al, ). Although rno‐miR‐184 is an onco‐miRNA in prostate cancer (Lin, Chiang, Chang, & Ying, ; Walter, Valera, Pinto, & Merino, ), there is no evidence about relationship between rno‐miR‐184 and BPH.…”

“…Indeed, MicroRNA 184 was also described as significantly downregulated in tissues from patients with colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer or prostate carcinoma, compared with matched normal adjacent tissues [ 38 , 81 , 82 ]. It was also differentially expressed in glioma tissues compared to normal brain tissues [ 83 ], and in tongue carcinomas tissues compared to paired normal tissues [ 84 ]. Micro-RNA-196 was differentially expressed in pancreatic resection specimens from carcinoma cases and its precursors vs. benign pancreatic specimens [ 85 ], in oral squamous cell carcinoma tissues (OSCC) vs. contral mucosa [ 86 ], in breast cancer samples vs. normal breast samples [ 87 ] and in colonic cancer specimens vs. para-cancerous specimens [ 88 ].…”

“…US National Science Foundation provided excellent logistic support to the South Pole-based experiments. Currently, the BICEP3 telescope [25], Keck Array [26], and the 10 m South Pole Telescope (SPT) [27] are observing from the South Pole at mm-wave bands.…”
