Expression of RBMS3 in Breast Cancer Progression

Abstract: The aim of the study was to evaluate the localization and intensity of RNA-binding motif single-stranded-interacting protein 3 (RBMS3) expression in clinical material using immunohistochemical (IHC) reactions in cases of ductal breast cancer (in vivo), and to determine the level of RBMS3 expression at both the protein and mRNA levels in breast cancer cell lines (in vitro). Moreover, the data obtained in the in vivo and in vitro studies were correlated with the clinicopathological profiles of the patients. Mate… Show more

“…It is thought that RBMS3 may be a tumor suppressor since tumor tissues and cells, such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma [ 29 , 30 ], breast cancer [ 31 ], and lung cancer [ 24 ], express less of this protein. The current research verified that RBMS3 was dramatically downregulated in the tissues of EOC patients.…”

“…Human cancer cell lines were cultured from various clinicopathological breast tumors, including MCF-7, SK-BR-3, T-47D, BT-474, B-T549, MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-436, MDA-MB-468, and BO2 (all from ATCC, American Type Culture Collection ATCC, Old Town Manassas, VA, USA) [25], [26]. The MCF10A cell line, which is derived from brocystic breast disease, and the HME1-hTERT (Me16C) (ATCC) cell line, which is normal mammary epithelial cells immortalized with hTERT, were also used.…”

“…RBMS3 is a tumor suppressor gene, and downregulation of RBMS3 is correlated with poor prognosis in in various human cancers 144,145 . The suppressive effect of RBMS3 is mediated by a domain located at the 3p region of chromosome 3 that generates multiple tumor suppressor genes 146,147 . It is a favorable prognostic marker for many human cancers.…”
