Expression of TSP50, SERCA2 and IL-8 in Colorectal Adenoma and Carcinoma: Correlation to Clinicopathological Factors

Abstract: Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common type of cancer, it is considered a genetically heterogeneous disease with different molecular pathways being involved in its initiation and progression. Testes-specific protease 50 (TSP50) gene is a member of cancer/testis antigens that encodes for threonine protease enzyme. Overexpression of TSP50 was found to enhance the progression and invasion of breast cancer and other malignant tumors. SERCA2 is widely expressed in several body tissues; its abe… Show more

“…IL-8 was known to increase in CRC over that in normal epithelial cells [ 29 ]; indeed, IL-8 expression was higher in the tumor and serum of patients with cachexia than in weight-stable patients [ 30 ]. The clinical data were next plotted with a KM-plot curve, dividing the patients into low- and high- expression groups based on IL-8 transcript expression in the tumor specimens obtained from lung cancer biopsies.…”

“…To assess the effects of tumor-derived EVs in CC adipocytes lipolysis, LLC/C26 cancer cell-conditioned medium (LCM and CCM) versus LCM/CCM depleted of EVs (LCM-dep and CCM-dep) were prepared as described [ 29 , 31 ]. As shown, LCM and CCM-derived EVs evoked PGC1α and UCP1 expression together with p65 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation in 3 T3-L1 adipocytes; whereas this effect was less pronounced under LCM-dep/CCM-dep treatments (Fig.…”

“…This suggests that this gene plays an important role in T-ALL blood/tissue samples, making it unique and critical in leukemia development and progression compared to other genes. In recent times, research related to the identification of some novel biomarkers has become increasingly vital for the very early detection of the stages of cancers and the evaluation of chemotherapeutic strategies in personalized medicine [ 25 , 26 ]. Thus, IL-8 is highly expressed in T-ALL patients and may prove to be a good candidate biomarker for early disease detection.…”
