Expression pattern, genomic structure, and promoter analysis of the gene encoding stilbene synthase from Chinese wild Vitis pseudoreticulata

Abstract: The gene encoding stilbene synthase (STS) plays a central role in many biochemical and physiological actions, and its metabolite resveratrol possesses broad-spectrum resistance to pathogens, as well as diverse pharmacological properties, notably an anticancer effect. Here, we report the expression analysis of the gene encoding STS and its promoter function from a powdery mildew (PM)-resistant Chinese wild Vitis pseudoreticulata, and compare it with two PM-susceptible cultivated grapevines, Vitis vinifera cvs. … Show more

“…If A. ipaënsis has behavior similar to A. hypogaea, the best point for analysis of resveratrol in this species can be reached 15 h after treatment. This was also observed in species of grapevine (wild and cultivated) one sequence of RS had different expression levels in various hours post inoculation with Uncinula necator for each genotype, showing a speciesspecific expression profile (Xu et al, 2011). This is the study trial of RS using RT-qPCR in Arachis and the first one in wild Arachis species.…”

“…For example, the Chinese wild grapevine Vitis pseudoreticulata accession “Baihe-35-1” has relatively highly resistance to a number of fungi, and especially to E. necator [6,7]. These wild grapevine germplasm resources offer the opportunity to mine novel disease-resistance genes and so accelerate the genetic improvement of our existing V. vinifera germplasm resources.…”

“…Engineering the StSy into plants of interest results in resveratrol accumulation and elevates pathogen resistance in some crops such as rice [7], tomato [8], or barley [9]. Stilbene synthases are typically organised in gene families with high sequence homology of individual members, but different regulatory features in their promotors [10]. For the sake of simplicity, in this study, the term stilbene synthase is used to designate this family of enzymes.…”
