Expressway Guardrail Extraction and Classification Based on Slice Method

Abstract: Guardrails are an important ancillary facility of expressways. Accurate and effective identification of guardrails from road scenes plays an important role in high-precision map construction, automatic driving, road maintenance, and so on. At present, there are few research methods on guardrail recognition in highway scenes, and the existing methods have some defects such as low recognition accuracy and inability to distinguish guardrail types. In this paper, a point cloud of an expressway scene obtained by mo… Show more

“…Use of this method makes it possible to distinguish the types of barriers based on their characteristic cuts. The experimental results show that it can effectively identify the types of crash barriers in the point cloud with high accuracy [26]. The next study aims to modify the point cloud obtained from laser scanning and significantly reduce the size of this point cloud to improve further processing and object recognition.…”

“…According to Ming Huang, binary coded voxels were used to study the highway sites, and clustered slicing of the highway guardrail was used to identify it based on its features. This resulted in highly accurate and efficient identification of the highway guardrail [5]. However, the effect of slicing is influenced by the sample environment.…”

“…A mobile terrestrial laser scanner can record a high‐density three‐dimensional (3D) point cloud from the perspective of a vehicle travelling at highway speeds (Wang et al, 2019). This technology has been used in various roadway asset management applications including extracting and identifying trees (Huang et al, 2020; Husain & Chandra Vaishya, 2020; Safaie et al, 2021), lane markings (Ma et al, 2020; Rastiveis et al, 2020), road signs (Guan et al, 2020; Soilán et al, 2016), utility poles and power lines (Liu et al, 2020; Thanh Ha & Chaisomphob, 2020; Tu et al, 2020), roads attributes (Ma, 2020; Tran & Taweep, 2020), and building facades (Xia & Wang, 2019).…”
