Extended Analysis of Three-times Ionized Cesium Cs IV

Abstract: The spectrum of cesium was recorded in the 300–1250 Å on a 3 m normal incidence spectrograph using a triggered spark source. The 5s25p3 (6d + 7s) configurations in Cs IV spectrum were investigated. 41 out of 47 levels of two configurations have been established on the basis of 76 lines in the 344 Å–949 Å region. The observed spectrum was interpreted satisfactorily by carrying out Hartree–Fock (HF) and least-squares-fitting (LSF) calculations using Cowan Code.

“…The spectra of Cs , Cs , and Cs listed in the NIST Atomic Spectra Database have been compiled by Sansonetti (2009) from the measurements by Tauheed et al (1991), Tauheed & Joshi (1993), and Tauheed et al (2005) who used a normal incidence spectro-graph with a triggered spark. Level identification was based on CI structure calculations with the Pauli code (Cowan 1981) and parametric least-squares fits.…”

“…We were surprised by the lack of previous -value estimates despite the comprehensive Cs spectrum compilation by Sansonetti (2009), which includes well-identified spectroscopic level structures for Cs -Cs by Tauheed et al (1991Tauheed et al ( , 2005 and Tauheed & Joshi (1993). Such level identifications were based on CI calculations, which for configurations of the type s p (3 ≤ ≤ 5) can be faulty as reported by Palmeri et al (2012).…”

“…However, further configuration, such as the 5s 2 5p 3 5d which involves a three-electron change compared with the normal Auger decay process should also be the possible Auger final states due to the fact that sufficient correlation effects are taken into account. Given in Table 3 are the theoretical and experimental energy levels, [7,28] the main jj coupling components of these configurations, and the relative errors. A general agreement between our calculations and the previous measurements is obtained, however, the discrepancy is still large for the highly excited states.…”
