Extended constitutive relation error‐based approach: The role of mass in damage detection

Abstract: Summary This paper presents an extended constitutive relation error (ECRE)‐based method for detecting damage in structural systems. Although most ECRE‐based methods for damage detection have relied on an iterative model calibration process, the approach advocated in this study uses residual energy to identify structural damage. Residual energy represents the spatial distribution of discrepancies between model predictions of the undamaged system and experimental measurements obtained from the damaged system. Th… Show more

“…Therefore, innovative and quantitative methods employing automated-based damage detection have received great attention in the seismic evaluation of buildings in recent years. [4][5][6] Several studies have investigated automated image-based techniques, for example, fractal analysis for damage and performance evaluation of civil engineering structures. [7][8][9] Bridges are in the great importance of monitoring and damage assessment.…”

“…In practical applications, for the sake of efficiency, it may be beneficial not to update all stiffness parameters simultaneously. When the region to be identified is not known a priori, a simple strategy can be drawn based on equation (18). It carries the information about how well the material parameters of the model correspond to reality.…”
