We study a generic leptophilic U(1)X extension of the standard model with a light gauge boson. The U(1)X charge assignments for the leptons are guided by lepton universality violating (LUV) observables in semileptonic b → sℓℓ decays, muon anomalous magnetic moment and the origin of leptonic masses and mixing. Anomaly cancellation conditions require the addition of new chiral fermions in the model, one of which acts as a dark matter (DM) candidate when it is stabilised by an additional $$ {\mathcal{Z}}_2 $$ Z 2 symmetry. From our analysis, we show two different possible models with similar particle content that lead to quite contrasting neutrino mass origin and other phenomenology. The proposed models also have the potential to address the anomalous results in b → cℓνℓ decays like R(D), R(D∗), electron anomalous magnetic moment and the very recent KOTO anomaly in the kaon sector. We also discuss different possible collider signatures of our models which can be tested in future.

It is well known that the standard model of electroweak interactions rests on a metastable vacuum. This can be fixed only by means of new physics. Presently neutrino physics provides the most intriguing framework to formulate new physics. This is so because, in addition to the problem with lightness for the active standard neutrinos, current MiniBooNE experimental results may indicate that sterile neutrinos exist and are light, too. In this case, it is reasonable to expect that the framework that yields light active and sterile neutrinos could stabilize the vacuum, too. To achieve this goal, we consider an extension of the standard model which involves new fermions in the form of right-handed neutrinos (ν R) and new scalars in the form of triplets (Δ) and singlets (σ). Within this framework, tiny masses are obtained when we consider that lepton number is spontaneously broken at low-energy scale, which means that Δ and σ both develop very small vacuum expectation values. We investigate whether this setting leads to a stable vacuum. For this, we obtain the whole set of conditions over the quartic terms of the potential that ensures that the model is bounded from below and evaluate the renormalization group equation of the self-coupling of the Higgs. We show that in such a scenario the quartic coupling κ of the interaction (Φ T ΔΦσ þ H:c:), where Φ is the standard Higgs doublet, is responsible for the stability of the electroweak vacuum up to Planck scale. We also extract constraints over the parameters of the potential by means of lepton flavor violating processes and from invisible decay of the standardlike Higgs.

General Two Higgs Doublet Models (2HDM) are popular Standard Model extensions but feature flavor changing interactions and lack neutrino masses. We discuss a 2HDM where neutrino masses are generated via type I seesaw and propose an extension where neutrino masses are generated via a type II seesaw mechanism with flavor changing interactions being absent via the presence of a U(1) gauge symmetry. After considering a variety of bounds such as those rising from collider and electroweak precision we show that our proposal stands as a UV complete 2HDM with a dark photon where neutrino masses and flavor changing interactions are addressed. A possible dark matter realization is also discussed.
