Extended Structures Constructed from Alkoxo-Bridged Binuclear Complexes as Nodes and Bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene as a Spacer

Abstract: Two new polynuclear complexes have been obtained by connecting alkoxo-bridged binuclear copper-(II) complexes with bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bpe): [Cu 2 (Hdea) 2 (bpe)]‚(bpe)‚(ClO 4 ) 2 (1) and [Cu 2 (mea) 2 (bpe) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 (2) (Hdea ) mono-deprotonated diethanolamine and mea ) deprotonated monoethanolamine). The structure of 1 consists of infinite chains that have resulted by connecting the bis(alkoxo)-bridged centrosymmetrical [Cu 2 (dea) 2 ] 2+ nodes with bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene rods. The Cu‚‚‚Cu separatio… Show more

“…Amino alcohol ligands are used to prepare copper(II) amino alcoholates that can selfassemble to form both mono-and multinuclear complexes. In bionuclear copper complexes, the metal atoms can be connected by bridged oxygen atoms (alkoxy) from two different diethanolamine molecules (Tudor et al, 2003;Marin et al, 2005), or combined by a single oxygen atom from an amino alcohol and a bridged ligand molecule (Ashurov et al, 2015). There are several typical binding modes of tridentate amino alcohol ligands to copper(II) ions and other metals such as lanthanides, yttrium, and alkaline-earth metals (Breeze & Wang, 1994;Chen et al, 1995;Wang et al, 1995).…”

“…copper atom) gave 168 hits. Most similar to the title compound are the dinuclear complexes with coordinated diethanolamine molecules, and copper atoms connected by a bridging oxygen atom and some other ligands, see: refcodes ELESAP (Tudor et al, 2003), FARKAL (Marin et al, 2005) and WITBAC (Madará sz et al, 2000).…”

“…MOFs are primarily constructed from mononuclear metal centres and organic ligands, and this has resulted in a tremendous number of intriguing network topologies and a variety of packing motifs (Kitagawa et al, 2004;Bradshaw et al, 2005). Recently, more attention has been paid to expanding the classical Aufbau principles to include polynuclear coordination clusters as building units, with the intention of utilizing them as nodes in the design of coordination polymers (Marin et al, 2004;Perry et al, 2007). This represents an extension of the classical 'node-and-spacer' approach (Robson, 2000), giving rise to a family of cluster-based polymers with an enhanced variety of coordination geometries compared with single metal ions.…”

“…The above listed properties combined with the commercial availability and low cost have strongly encouraged research on their coordination chemistry with transition metal ions including copper(II). 11 Studies with a number of aliphatic amino alcohols have been performed so far, e.g., 2aminoethanol 12 , N,N'-dimethylethanolamine 13 , 3-amino-1-propanol 10,12,[14][15][16][17][18][19][20] , diethanolamine [21][22][23] , Nmethyldiethanolamine [24][25][26] , N-butyldiethanolamine 13 , and triethanolamine 27,28 . The survey of the Cambridge Structural Database reveals that there are more complexes with amino alcoholate ions than with intact amino alcohols.…”
