Extended tumor growth model for combined therapy

Abstract: Mathematical modeling of tumor growth dynamics may have great impact on modern medicine. The dynamical model of tumor growth which describes the effect of drugs can be used e.g., for therapy optimization, therapy supervision, drug development. Based on a single drug tumor growth model, we create a model that can be used to describe the effect of two drugs. The extended model is created using formal reaction kinetics analogy, thus the meaning of the equations is interpretable for experts not familiar with diffe… Show more

“…It is estimated that there will be 21.4 million cases annually by 2030 [1,2]. The application of modern control algorithms for cancer treatment has much potential-especially in the adjustment of the dosages-however, there are difficulties as well [3]. The article investigates a facet of a larger project.…”

“…Cancer treatment and its related fields are intensively studied subjects, since it is the second leading cause of death globally [1], and it is predicted that there will be 21.4 million cases of cancer by 2030 [2]. The application of modern control algorithms to adjust the dosage of drugs has many unexploited potential [3]. With models accurately describing the underlying physiological processes control engineers have the possibility to define optimal therapies.…”
