RESUMOO presente artigo discute o processo de elaboração para projeto conceitual de um sistema de produção sustentável para manufaturar equipamentos destinados à alimentação e suplementação de bovinos, que são obtidos a partir de materiais compostos (combinação de resíduos plásticos industriais e fibras vegetais de reforço). O estudo é decorrente da execução de uma pesquisa aplicada financiada pelo Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, que foi baseado em acordo de cooperação entre a indústria INFLEX, Universidade Federal da Grande Dourados/UFGD e Universidade Federal de São Carlos/UFSCar. O principal resultado é uma configuração preliminar do sistema produtivo sustentável (referência para uma nova unidade de negócios) que foi delineada a partir da adequação da metodologia de plant layout de Apple (1991), conceitos de produção mais limpa e requisitos da Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos. Por fim, destaca-se, também, a formação de uma base de fornecedores (embalagens plásticas pós-consumo e fibras vegetais).

Abstract-Due to the increasing expenses of energy, industrial contamination, deficiencies of strategic raw materials and natural resources, and ecological disasters, sustainability has become one of the most prominent areas in the recent researches. Having a profound effect on all of the organizational aspects of human life, sustainability related issues maintain a strong mutual relationship with manufacturing, as the main aspect of the modern lifestyle.Having considered the previous suggested frameworks for sustainable manufacturing, this paper proposes a new structure where not only do the three major pillars of sustainability have interlink connections, but also two more enablers are introduced to be added to the previous ones to develop the existing frameworks. Moreover, a holistic review of sustainability, its definitions, background and current issues are represented here to offer appropriate options to the manufacturing systems for moving faster and safer toward a sustainable future.Index Terms-Manufacturing sustainability enablers, sustainable manufacturing system, sustainability pillars.
