Extending Traditional IT-Governance Knowledge Towards SOA and Cloud Governance

Abstract: Enterprises today often strive to keep up with the paces of technological development. A particular case in point is the IT function where traditional governance approaches are often questioned by technology trends. Examples for such trends in the last ten years are the service-oriented architecture (SOA) and cloud computing. The introduction of SOA in the enterprise was one of the key enablers for cloud computing. Therefore, it can serve as a natural fit for bringing traditional IT governance approaches forwa… Show more

“…One major aspect of governance in the context of IT is the development and facilitation of IT governance frameworks. The objective is to define standardized processes and control metrics for IT provision (Stantchev & Stantcheva, 2012) and to offer approaches for the application of these artefacts in real world organizations (Stantchev & Stantcheva, 2013). Commonly used frameworks area include the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) (Van Bon, 2008) and the Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT) (Lawton, 2007).…”

“…A straightforward approach was proposed (Stantchev & Stantcheva, 2012 to create a mapping between the SOA-based approach from (Stantchev & Malek, 2011) and the traditional approaches of ITIL and CoBIT. In the next section authors propose a further incremental extension that aims to address sustainability as a specific aspect of cloud governance.…”

“…At first the company need to have transparency about their needed profiles (Nilles & Senger, 2012). Standards like the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) (Pereira & da Silva, 2010) or the Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (CObIT) and ISO/IEC 27002 (Sahibudin, Sharifi, & Ayat, 2008), as well as approaches for Cloud Governance (K. Petruch, Stantchev, & Tamm, 2011;Stantchev & Stantcheva, 2012) provide a good framework for this issue but an accurate recording and selection of resource-requirements is still needed. After the relevance was determined, the recruiting of the identified profiles becomes a tough challenge (Colomo-Palacios, Casado-Lumbreras, Soto-Acosta, & García-Crespo, 2013).…”
