Extension of the known distribution of Aegla strinatii Türkay, 1972 and a checklist of decapod crustaceans (Aeglidae, Palaemonidae and Trichodactylidae) from the Jacupiranga State Park, South of São Paulo State, Brazil

Abstract: There are over 120 species of freshwater decapod crustaceans in Brazil. This paper contributes to the knowledge of the species richness and distribution of decapod crustaceans from Jacupiranga State Park, South of São Paulo State. The main objectives were to investigate the geographical distribution of A. strinatii and to generate a checklist of the decapod species collected from the sampling sites. Sixteen sampling sites were investigated during the year of 2007 and four species were collected. The present re… Show more

“…Rocha and Bueno did not specify the upper altitude limit of their records, but according to their sampling data and by estimating elevation using satellite imagery, individuals were captured at altitudes reaching approximately 500 m a.s.l. Rocha and Bueno (2011) recorded the occurrence of T. fluviatilis at about 580 m a.s.l. (estimated, using satellite imagery) in Jacupiranga State Park, southern São Paulo state.…”

“…There are approximately 120 species of freshwater decapods in Brazil (Rocha and Bueno, 2011). Among freshwater shrimps, Palaemonidae is the most abundant family (Sampaio et al, 2009) with five genera, where Macrobrachium (Bate, 1868) is the most represented with 17 species reported from Brazilian territory (Pileggi and Mantelatto, 2010).…”

“…The knowledge of freshwater decapods in Brazil Atlantic coast has increased during the last decades, especially regarding their taxonomy, distribution (Bond-Buckup and Buckup, 1989;Magalhães, 2003;Magalhães et al, 2005;Mossolin and Mantelatto, 2008;Sampaio et al, 2009;Mossolin et al, 2016;Rocha and Bueno, 2011) and population structure (Ammar et al, 2001;Albertoni et al, 2002;Antunes and Oshiro, 2004;Mossolin and Bueno, 2002;Collins et al, 2006;Mattos and Oshiro, 2009). However, there is a lack of studies assessing effects of stream environmental variables on decapod communities in this area, which restricts our ability to conduct efforts for their conservation.…”
