A computer model, CHESS, was developed to allow systematic and objective analysis of individual swine breeding farms. The model works by identifying deviations from standards, weighting the deviations, analyzing the weighted deviations, and finally evaluating individual farm performance based on the results. CHESS consists of one decision support system and three expert systems. A field test to validate the CHESS model resulted in a test disagreement between CHESS and human experts of about 4% only.
