“…Intraosseous AVMs in the maxilla or mandible are usually life-threatening hemorrhages at presentation. Patients may experience sudden fatal, exsanguinating hemorrhage, often following dental extraction, spontaneous exfoliation of primary teeth, or other surgical interventions (Bergeron et al, 2013;Davidson et al, 1984;Engel et al, 1995;Kacker et al, 2000).…”

“…In spite of the fact that absolute alcohol is a known potential embolic agent that produces vascular thrombosis and might inhibit angiogenesis, its effect on haemostasis for high flow AVMs is not promising because it cannot deliver immediate haemostatic control, while some cases of AVMs in the mandible present with life threatening haemorrhage. 22,23 Coil exposure and gingival dehiscence occurred in some cases and curettage of the extruded material and associated granulation tissue was required in this study. Compared with the 0.035 mm stainless steel coils used previously, 0.018 mm platinum fibre coils are softer and there is less chance of causing such problems.…”

“…However, the triad of gingival bleeding, tooth mobility and presence of a hypodense mass on a radiograph is almost pathognomonic of an AVM (Bergeron et al . 2013).…”

“…AVMs are most frequently high flow and constitute 5% of all mandibular vascular malformations (Bergeron et al . 2013). Trauma, ischaemic events, ectasia, puberty and hormonal changes can trigger and contribute to the proliferation of AVM (Richter & Friedman 2012).…”
