Extra-Periosteal Plate Fixation of Ankle Fractures

Abstract: Background: Open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screws is the standard operative treatment for displaced or unstable malleolar fractures, as it allows for a stable mechanical environment for healing. However, extensive surgical dissection can lead to devitalization of the fracture fragments and their soft tissue attachments, resulting in delayed union, non-union, and infection.
