Extraction of Noble Metals from Pyrite Cinders

Abstract: When obtaining sulfuric acid from pyrite concentrates, a significant amount of waste is generated in the form of pyrite cinders that require disposal. The methods used in processing this raw material are, as a rule, the pyrometallurgical processes of chlorination and chloride sublimation, the disadvantages of which include increased energy consumption and a lack of complexity in the extraction of valuable components. Hydrometallurgical processes are in less demand due to their multi-stage nature and complexity… Show more

“…(5) (6) (7) In accordance with equations 6, 7 [2,3], the distribution of the main hydrolysis products from TCCA in an aqueous solution at various pH values was revealed. As can be seen from Figure 1, when the pH value is greater than 7.5, the predominant hydrolysis products are CIO − ; when the pH value is from 3.5 to 7.5, the main type is HCIO; and the pH value is less than 3.5,2 Cl2 acts as the main oxidizing agent.…”

“…Therefore, the development of technologies for processing gold-containing technogenic raw materials is an urgent task for the gold mining industry. The progress in improving methods for extracting useful components allows us to consider man-made dumps as a very attractive source of raw materials [1][2][3]. Manmade dumps can often compete in terms of content and reserves with newly discovered deposits today.…”

“…Since the late 1980s, hydrometallurgical autoclave and bacterial dissection technologies have been gradually introduced into the preparatory process of processing goldcontaining raw materials [13,14]. Processes such as Albion, Leachox, etc., have also been proposed [15,16].…”
