Extracts from Black Carrot Tissue Culture as Potent Anticancer Agents

Abstract: Black carrots contain anthocyanins possessing enhanced physiological activities. Explants of young black carrot shoots were cultured in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium for callus initiation and were transferred to new MS medium supplemented with four different combinations of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and kinetin. Subsequently, the lyophilized calli and black carrot harvested from fields were subjected to ultrasound extraction with ethanol at a ratio of 1:15 (w:v). Obtained extracts were applied to variou… Show more

“…Recently, they have received increasing interest as a source of natural food colorant due to the legal restrictions for synthetic colorants and increasing consumer demand for natural pigments (Ekici et al, 2015). In addition to their colorant features, anthocyanin rich black carrots are indicated to exhibit health promoting properties including antioxidant (Kamiloglu, Pasli, Ozcelik, Van Camp, & Capanoglu, 2015;Koley et al, 2014), antiinflammatory (Kamiloglu et al, 2016b;Mizgier et al, 2016) and anticancer (Sevimli-Gur, Cetin, Akay, Gulce-Iz, & Yesil-Celiktas, 2013) activities.…”

“…Comparative cytology and mapping studies are valuable resources for in-depth genetic and genomic research of Daucus spp., and for assisting in breeding programs Iovene et al, 2011). Plant tissue culture and genetic transformation have been also utilized in enhancing secondary metabolites production (Aharoni et al, 2005;Gonç alves and Romano, 2013;Govindaraj et al, 2008;Hasunuma et al, 2008;Mendoza-Poudereux et al, 2014;Muñoz-Bertomeu et al, 2008;Sevimli-Gur et al, 2013).…”
