“…However, they used their method in healthy controls and patients with ALS for calculating repeater neuron and Frep indices, but not MUNE values. 12,20 In the present study, F-MUNE values of controls were lower than observed in previous F-MUNE studies. 7,17,19 Moreover, our F-MUNE values, elicited both in controls and patients with ALS, were lower than those seen with other MUNE methods, 11 but were similar to those with the new MUNE method, MScanFit, used in the present study.…”

“…This finding is in accordance with previous studies assessing Freps using supramaximal stimuli. 15,20,42 The exact mechanism underlying the high frequency of Freps in ALS is elusive but both upper and lower motor neuron dysfunction have been implicated. 15,43,44 The negative correlation between F-wave frequency and frequency of Freps seems at first to help extract a sufficient number of sMUAPs in ALS.…”

“…F wave mainly reflects the conduction of proximal motor nerve and the function of anterior horn cells, its wave rate reflects the excitability of anterior horn cells, and the central latency to and from the spinal cord reflects the whole pathway [ 20 , 21 ]. The decrease of F wave output rate is related to the reduction and degeneration of functional cells in the anterior horn of the spinal cord, resulting in the decrease of cell excitability and the reduction of return impulse [ 22 ]. The prolongation of F wave latency indirectly indicates the severity of damage to the anterior horn or proximal end of the spinal cord.…”
