Fabricated leg mannequin for the pressure measurement of compression stockings

Abstract: Different lower limbs and devices used for the contact pressure measurement of the compression stocking make a significant difference to the precise contact pressure value. This study aimed to fabricate a novel soft leg mannequin based on the standard-sized wooden leg mannequin, but closer to the human leg with soft tissue and bones and to evaluate further the performance of the fabricated leg mannequin. The contact pressure exerted by the graduated compression stocking was measured by the fabricated leg manne… Show more

“…However, in previous studies, the leg circumferences were characterized as the major referring design strategies of user-oriented CTs ( Wang et al, 2023 ). The irregular cross-sectional shapes and varied curvatures of patient bodies frequently led to uneven and insufficient pressure generations ( Li et al, 2022 ). The anatomic structural diversities of targeted users still need to be investigated to improve the clinic efficiency of CTs.…”

“…The principle behind compression stockings (CS) lies in their ability to generate a controlled pressure gradient from the ankle to the thigh, exerting the highest pressure at the ankle and gradually reducing it towards the thigh. These stockings find extensive application across numerous sectors, including medicine, healthcare, sports and body shaping (Cooke et al ., 1996; Liu et al ., 2008; Kumar et al ., 2014; Xu et al ., 2019; Hobson et al ., 2017; Li et al ., 2022). To maintain the functionality and applicability of CS, the original pressure performance of CS should be maintained (Wienert et al ., 2008).…”
