Fabrication and characterization of polyetherimide/polyvinyl acetate polymer blend membranes for CO2/CH4 separation

Abstract: This article presents fabrication, characterization, and performance evaluation of polyetherimide (PEI)/polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) blend membranes. Polymer blend membranes with various blend ratios of PEI/PVAc were prepared by solution casting and evaporation technique. Morphology and miscibility of polymer blend membranes were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. The interaction between blend polymers was analyzed by FTIR… Show more

“…However, the filter will only inherit the character of PTFE. In recent years, nanocomposite-based polymer blends for membranes have become increasingly important in various fields, such as PBI/PIM blends [38], PVDF-HFP/PVDF blends [39], PBI/PDA blends [40], PEI/PVA blends [41] and PSf/sPAEs blends [42] exhibited good performance. So compositing PTFE with other materials still needs further investigation.…”

“…The conventional permeability prediction models for polymeric blend membranes can be used considering a higher percentage polymer as a continuous phase and a lower one as a dispersed phase 41–44 . In this study, the continuous phase is PEBAX matrix and glassy polymers are considered as the dispersed phase.…”

“…The first model (Equation []), considered as the most ideal possible case for the complete miscible blend polymers, is defined as 6,13 : lnPb=Φ1lnP1+Φ2lnP2, In Equation (), the permeability of homogeneous polymer blends (P b ) can be explained in terms of permeability of its constitutive components, where P i and Φ i are gas permeability and volume fraction of components, respectively. It is worth to mention that Equation () has been used to predict the permeability of random copolymers as a function of composition for group contribution methodology 41 …”
