Fabrication of Cementitious Microfiltration Membrane and Its Catalytic Ozonation for the Removal of Small Molecule Organic Pollutants

Abstract: In this study, a low-cost cementitious microfiltration membrane (CM) with a catalytic ozone oxidation function for the removal of organic pollutants was fabricated by using cementitious and C-10 μm silica powders at a certain silica–cementitious particle ratio (s/c). The effect of the s/c on the pore size distribution and mechanical strength of the membrane was investigated. The membrane pore size showed a bimodal distribution, and the higher the s/c, the closer the second peak was to the accumulated average p… Show more

“…CNTs can be functionalized with carboxyl, amine or sulfhydryl groups, to name a few, by attaching chemical functional groups to their sidewalls to achieve covalent functionalization. These groups play a crucial role in reducing the van der Waals interactions between CNTs and allow additional modifications through covalent connections with various molecules such as long polymer molecules, alkyl chains, nucleic acids, dendrimers and enzymes [100,101] . Direct covalent functionalization has a greater influence on the chemical and physical properties of CNTs than the oxidation method and thus opens up more possibilities for the use of CNTs [100] .…”

“…The water‐soluble N−ethyl−N′‐(3‐dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) is the most commonly used type of carbodiimide. When EDC combines with carboxyl groups, an o‐acylurea ester is formed as an intermediate [101] . This ester can easily be replaced by the main amine of the biomolecule.…”

“…In the first study, from cementitious powders and amorphous silica (C-10 µm), Sun et al [ 1 ] developed a cementitious microfiltration membrane (CM) with a catalytic ozone oxidation function for the removal of organic pollutants. By increasing the silica–cement ratio (s/c) the authors observed that the membranes showed an increase in pure water flux (PWF) and a decrease in mechanical strength.…”
