Fabrication of Defect‐Engineered MOF‐801 Membrane for Efficient Dye Rejection

Abstract: Although having shown great promise for efficient water treatment, rational structural design and engineering of polycrystalline MOF membranes remain rarely investigated so far. In this study, we prepared well-intergrown MOF-801 membranes with tailorable structural deficiencies in the framework for application in dye rejection. Of particular note, we found that the addition of formic acid as modulator led to the formation of MOF-801 membrane with higher missing-linker number, which was beneficial for increasin… Show more

“…It is worth noting that in many of those studies, ZIFs were in the form of particles or cubic crystals, thus a thicker selective layer is needed to achieve satisfactory retention rates. However, this frequently leads to decreased water permeance, as observed in the previously mentioned reports, where dye rejection surpasses 95% but permeance falls below 50 L•m -2 •h -1 •bar -1 , or even lower [35,37,38].…”

“…24). 395 The membrane exhibited admirable rejection of a molecular probe dye (rejection rate 499.50%), while achieving admirable water flux 431 L m À2 h À1 bar À1 . The authors reasoned that the flux could be boosted by increasing the density of missing-linker defects (by 2.6-fold) through varying the concentration of HFo used for synthesizing the MOF.…”

“…Liu et al prepared a well-intergrown fum-Zr-MOF membrane for dye rejection from water. 32 Our group proposed a high-probability theoretical coordination strategy to construct a fum-Zr-MOF membrane by eliminating lattice defects. 33 The resulting membrane with ångström-sized lattice apertures achieved a high and stable separation performance for rejecting ions with an effective diameter of more than 6.62 Å.…”

“…Very few reports have been published on fum‐Zr‐MOF separation membranes. Liu et al prepared a well‐intergrown fum‐Zr‐MOF membrane for dye rejection from water 32 . Our group proposed a high‐probability theoretical coordination strategy to construct a fum‐Zr‐MOF membrane by eliminating lattice defects 33 .…”
