Fabrication of Electrochemical Sensor Based on CeO2−SnO2 Nanocomposite Loaded on Pd Support for Determination of Nitrite at Trace Levels

Abstract: Here, an electrochemical sensor based on CeO2‐SnO2/Pd was prepared and used for highly selective and sensitive determination of nitrite in some real samples. This nanocomposite was characterized by various methods like X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The electrochemical behavior of the sensor was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry. The res… Show more

“…The entries in Table 1 show the excellent capabilities of the Cyt-c@Cu-HMHMB composite for the electrochemical sensing of nitrite. 40,[69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76] The practical value of an electrochemical sensor is significantly influenced by the reproducibility and repeatability of its estimates. The reproducibility of the Cytc@Cu-HMHMB nanocomposite-based electrode towards the detection of nitrite was assessed via DPV analysis.…”

“…The existence of excess amount of nitrites in human system can have been adverse effect with several health problems like leukemia, bowel cancer and brain tumors. For infants, nitrite can combine with hemoglobin in the blood to form methemoglobin by the irreversible oxidation of Fe 2+ to Fe 3+ , which leads to a condition commonly known as "blue baby syndrome" [3]. Further, nitrite ions are easily reacted with amines to form nitrosamines which are highly carcinogenic compounds that play a significant role in the development of stomach cancer.…”

“…[7] Electrochemists are in search of a highly sensitive and selective tool for the detection of nitrite in drinking water as well as in nitrite containing foods. [8][9][10] Because of the fact that, WHO (world health organization) has limited the nitrite content in drinking water to 65.2 μM, control and management of nitrite have gained greater significance. There are many analytical tools available for the detection of nitrite like, spectrophotometry, chromatography, chemosensing and electrochemical detection.…”

“…Consumption of nitrite beyond the permissible limits may lead to infertility, [5] can cause the transformation of ferrohemoglobin to ferrihemoglobin thereby suppressing the oxygen carrying ability of hemoglobin [6] and high risk of cancer due to the formation of N‐nitrosamines [7] . Electrochemists are in search of a highly sensitive and selective tool for the detection of nitrite in drinking water as well as in nitrite containing foods [8–10] . Because of the fact that, WHO (world health organization) has limited the nitrite content in drinking water to 65.2 μM, control and management of nitrite have gained greater significance.…”
