“…This is likely due to either the competitive effect between the anions (Cl − ) from NaCl and the negatively charged AO7 molecules for the same active binding sites present on the surface of MSS‐AC or the screening effect of Na + and Cl − ions on the surface of MSS‐AC, resulting in suppression of the electrostatic interactions between the adsorbent and adsorbate . Thus, the experimental results suggest that the adsorption of AO7 on MSS‐AC occurs primarily on the external‐layer of MSS‐AC via electrostatic or Van der Waals interactions .…”

“…The results obtained using the sequential model sum of squares and the model summary statistics suggest that among the four different models examined (linear, two‐factor interaction [2FI], quadratic, and cubic), the quadratic model provided the most reasonable description of adsorption capacity, allowing the relationship between the independent variables and the response variable to be elucidated (Supporting Information Table S2). Even though the cubic model exhibited the lowest standard deviation and the highest determination coefficient ( R 2 ) and adjusted‐ R 2 value ( R 2 Adj ), it was found to be inappropriate as a model for further analysis given that the 3 k BBD had insufficient runs to support a full cubic model . Based on these results, the empirical relationships between the adsorption capacity and the independent variables in terms of the coded factors can be expressed as follows: lefttrueY=61.35+4.35X10.64X2+0.33X33.05X40.52X5+1.30X1X21.23X1X30.23X1X4+1.99X1X5+1.07X2X33.32X2X4+1.67X2X51.26X3X41.18X3X5+1.80X4X523.64X125.98X226.72X328.51X427.33X52 where Y is the adsorption capacity and X 1 , X 2 , X 3 , X 4 , and X 5 are carbonizing temperature (°C), carbonizing time (h), impregnation ratio, activating temperature (°C), and activating time (h), respectively.…”

“…The toxicant adsorbed on the carbon material is degraded by the microbes, and thereby, regeneration of the packed bed is redundant. The implementation of powdered activated carbon is undesirable in packed column study possessing obstruction to operational layout and owing to its difficulty in recovery or separation of the mixture after adsorption . The extensive application of alginate as a naturally extracted polysaccharide composed of cross‐linking the powdered carbon matrix by hydrogel formation referred to as egg box‐like structure .…”
