Fabrication of PEBA/HZIF-8 Pervaporation Membranes for High Efficiency Phenol Recovery

Abstract: Phenol and its chemical derivatives serve as essential chemical materials are indispensable for the synthesis of many kinds of polymers. However, they are highly toxic, carcinogenic, difficult to be degraded biologically, and often found in aqueous effluents. Recovery of hazardous phenol from wastewater remains a daunting challenge. Herein, we prepared a hybrid membrane containing polyether block amide (PEBA) matrix and HZIF-8 fillers. To improve the compatibility between ZIF-8 and PEBA, ZIF-8 was modified by … Show more

“…1), as was also observed in the case of PEBA/ZIF-8 mixed matrix membranes. 15 The spectra of the composites with the highest 5 wt% amounts of MOF inclusions show the appearance of an absorption band at 3670 cm À1 , corresponding to the n(OH) vibrations of UIO-66 and UIO-66-NH 2 MOFs. 16,17 The absorption increasing with MOF concentration was observed at 1506 cm À1 in PEBA/UIO-66 and at 765 cm À1 (N-H vibrations) in PEBA/UIO-66-NH 2 composites (ESI † Fig.…”

“…These polymers have a number of properties, such as flexibility, chemical resistance and strength, that make them promising for use in membrane technologies [ 54 , 55 , 56 ]. Recently, a number of studies have been carried out on the use of mixed matrix membranes based on PEBA not only for the separation of gases [ 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 , 61 , 62 , 63 , 64 , 65 , 66 ] but also for the extraction of various biofuel components [ 67 , 68 ], alcohols [ 69 , 70 ], desulphurization [ 71 ], alcohol dehydration [ 72 ], esterification [ 73 ] and pervaporation [ 74 , 75 ]. The high degree of combinatoriality in the preparation of block copolymers makes it possible to obtain a large number of commercially available polymers with different compositions and properties [ 76 ].…”
