Fabrication of Sericin/Agrose Gel Loaded Lysozyme and Its Potential in Wound Dressing Application

Abstract: Sericin is a biomaterial resource for its significant biodegradability, biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, and reactivity. Designing a material with superabsorbent, antiseptic, and non-cytotoxic wound dressing properties is advantageous to reduce wound infection and promote wound healing. Herein, we propose an environment-friendly strategy to obtain an interpenetrating polymer network gel through blending sericin and agarose and freeze-drying. The physicochemical characterizations of the sericin/agarose gel inc… Show more

“…To evaluate the cytotoxicity of SS/Agar, PDA-SS/Agar and AgNPs-PDA-SS/Agar films, cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was performed to examine the cells treated with different films. In the test, the metabolically active cells react with the tetrazolium salt in the CCK-8 solution to produce a soluble formaldehyde nitrogen dye with maximum absorbance at 450 nm [ 39 ]. Optical density (OD) reflects cell survival and living cells [ 40 ].…”

“…It can form strong gels at low concentrations [ 7 , 8 , 9 ]. Considering its malleable mechanical properties, low cost, and good biocompatibility, agarose is often used to improve the performance of sericin as an auxiliary biomaterial [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ].…”

“…Sericin has good hydrophilic properties that are widely used in the pharmaceuticals and cosmetic sectors. Furthermore, it is useful in the wound healing process and can be used as a wound dressing and healing agent [16][17][18]. Ersel et al evaluated the in vivo wound healing effects of a gel formulation containing sericin in rats [16].…”
