Facile Development of Photoluminescent Textile Fabric via Spray Coating of Eu(II)-Doped Strontium Aluminate

Abstract: The present paper focuses on the development of novel smart fabrics having warning photoluminescent properties that keep light emitting for a period of time in the absence of an illumination source. Phosphorescence commonly brings added value for safety enhancement. Herein, we introduce a textile material coated with a photoluminescent layer. Dysprosium-and europium-doped strontium aluminate phosphor were admixed with a mixture of an adhesive binder and distilled water to afford the pigment−binder formula whic… Show more

“…The luminescent epoxy cobbles displayed long‐lasting phosphorescence as found for the solid phosphor powder. The emission peak of the luminescent epoxy cobbles was at 521 nm, which was just higher than that of the solid phosphor powder at 519 nm . The afterglow peak intensity profile of the luminescent epoxy cobbles was initially high as the lifetime of the epoxy cobble sample at 3.00 wt% and displayed a nonlinear relation as a function of time.…”

“…Among these long‐persistent phosphors, the lanthanide‐doped strontium aluminium oxide complex (SrAl 2 O 4 :Eu 2+ ,Dy 3+ ) proved to be an outstanding long‐persistent phosphor due to its high brightness and longer persistence time, as well as its chemical, physical, thermal, and photostability . A long‐persistent photoluminescence phosphor is generally composed of crystals of collective elements and light energy traps . The crystals are the luminescent components due to their excitation after being charged by an energy light source, while the light energy traps are recognized by their long‐persistent ability to store this light energy for a long period of time.…”

“…These materials have been used in a wide range of applications for embroidery or sewing threads, toy fabric, protective clothing for fire-fighters and chemical workers, furniture and decoration, ropes and cords, tents, carpets and curtains etc. (7) There are several kinds of photoluminescent materials available commercially (8).Organic compounds such as porphyrins and perylenes or inorganic materials as SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ (9). Up to now, there are different long-lasting luminescent materials have been developed as different primary color emitters, such as SrMgSi2O6:Eu2+/Dy3+ or CaAl2O4:Eu2+/Nd3+ for blue, SrAl2O4:Eu2+/ Dy3+ or MgAl2O4:Mn2+ for green and CaS:Eu2+/ Tm3+/Ce3+ or Y2O2S:Eu3+,Mg2+/Ti4+ for red.…”

“…There are worldwide competitive producers of textiles, such as yarns, fabrics, apparel, textile raw materials, and home furnishings . Technical textiles can be described as the textile products that were manufactured for non‐aesthetic functions, where their roles are the major criterion . The major objective of the technical protective textiles, such as flame‐retardant, antimicrobial and superhydrophobic garments, is to enhance people safety .…”
