Facile green synthesis of gold nanoparticles with gum arabic as a stabilizing agent and reducing agent

Abstract: A facile, completely green, and cheap route for the synthesis of Au nanoparticles at 25-75°C has been developed by using only hydrogen tetrachloroaurate as the precursor and gum arabic (GA) simultaneously as a reducing agent and a stabilizing agent. No extra reagents are needed. From the analyses of UV/VIS absorption spectra, TEM, HRTEM, SAED, and XRD patterns, the formation of Au nanoparticles with a fcc structure was recognized. The synthesis reaction was usually finished in 2-4 h. Increasing the reaction te… Show more

“…However, as the amount of GA increased further (100 mg or above), a decrease in CT value was observed. As it has been reported previously, [37] at high GA concentration, a broad particle size distribution might be resulted which is due to the increased intermolecular force of GA molecules. This fact in turn may hinder the dispersion of GNPs.…”

“…In addition, biopolymers such as chitosan [9][10][11], alginate [12,13], hyaluronan [14,15], gum arabic [16,17], protein [18,19], gelatin [20], dextran [21], and glucomannan [22] have been also used as stabilizers of colloidal AuNPs solution. On the other hand, materials based on functionalized AuNPs are regarded as one of the most important nanocomposites especially due to their biological and catalytic activities [23,24].…”

“…glutathione), and sugars (e.g. glucose, fructose) are such materials, which provide suitable reducing and surface agents for the nanoparticle synthesis/stabilization [14][15][16][17][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. Plant extracts are regarded as one of the most promising natural reducing agents, such as metabolities (e.g.…”
