Facile hydrothermal synthesis of CuO–Cu2O/GO nanocomposites for the photocatalytic degradation of organic dye and tetracycline pollutants

Abstract: A bifunctional nanoscale photocatalyst was constructed by developing a one-step method for the in situ growth of CuO–Cu2O nanoparticles on GO sheets, and the photocatalytic mechanism was inferred.

“…These UV-Vis peaks were well matched with CuO and Cu2O absorption profiles from previous studies (Chan et al 2007). A broadened plasmon resonance peak for Cu-Gr nanocomposites is due to irregular shapes and sizes of the particles (Zhang et al 2020).…”

“…An absorption peak at 262 nm is due to π→π* transition in C=C bond of graphene. Another absorption band at~350-450 nm is attributed to the intrinsic band to band transition of the CuO and Cu2O (Zhang et al 2020). A blue shift was observed in the peak position compared to bulk CuO; this might be due to the quantum confinement effects exhibited by the particle when the size varies from bulk to nano.…”

“…5E), the peaks at 680.0 and 689.6 eV correspond to fluorine atoms, while the shoulder peak at 683.8 eV is assigned to CuF 2 . 36 [36][37][38] It is beneficial to improve the photocatalytic performance of the composite. The Raman spectra and infrared spectra of the samples were measured at room temperature.…”

“…Very recently mixed oxides or double oxides have also been combined with GO for different purposes. The hydrothermal synthesis technique was followed by Zhang et al 117 for in situ synthesis of CuO–Cu 2 O–GO (10–15 nm) from Cu(OAc) 2 . The material has shown excellent dual function catalytic ability for the rapid catalytic oxidation of tetracycline (TC) and methyl orange (MOR).…”
