Facile preparation of silica-supported Ti catalysts effective for the epoxidation of cyclooctene using Ti-bridged silsesquioxanes

Abstract: When used as additives, silicas strongly promoted the epoxidation of cyclooctene by (t)BuOOH in the presence of Ti-silsesquioxane (Ti-POSS), where Ti species were found to be bound to the silica surface. Based on this observation, highly-active silica-supported Ti catalysts were prepared by the thermal treatment of mixtures of Ti-POSS and silica.

“…Yang et al used Lewis acids (FeCl 3 , AlCl 3 , and CuCl 2 ) to cure urushiol-based PBZ at low temperatures and revealed the effect of Lewis acids on the structure and properties of the polymer [ 38 ]. M-POSS can be used in nanocomposites due to its potential catalytic activity, serving as a novel catalyst in homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis (e.g., olefin polymerization, metathesis, and epoxidation) [ 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 ]. Mehta et al used trisilol isooctyl POSS as the catalyst and disiilol isobutyl POSS as the co-catalyst to catalyze ethylene polymerization with ethyl aluminum sesquichloride [ 44 ].…”

“…[15][16][17][18] Ti-containing siloxane/silsesquioxane molecules have been synthesized as active homogeneous catalysts, [49][50][51] immobilized on a silica substrate, and demonstrated as a potential precursor for heterogeneous catalysts. [52][53][54][55][56][57][58][59] Very recently, linking the siloxane cage with four-coordinated Ti species was demonstrated as another approach to obtain a catalyst with unique micro/mesoporosity. 60 In this study, titanosilicate nanoparticles (denoted as Poly-TiPOSS) were synthesized via a simple condensation reaction between titanosilicate silsesquioxane (denoted as TiPOSS) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as an additional Si source (Fig.…”
