Facile silicone oil-coated hydrophobic surface for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy of antibiotics

Abstract: The proposed facile, cost-effective slippery surface and gold nanorods based combinational approach for the SERS detection technique is a powerful strategy for the trace detection of the aqueous pollutant analytes even at very low concentrations.

“…The cocrystal in the common plate was small and dispersive, while that in the coated plate was larger and irregularly accumulated. The enriched effect of the hydrophobic silicon dioxide surface indirectly improves the sensitivity of the instrument by forming spots with higher sample concentrations on the plate [ 10 ]. As a result, the coated plate achieves a better spectrum by manually searching for the “sweet point.” This feature of the coated plate is particularly beneficial in samples where it is difficult to attain a good spectrum and is very much dependent on searching for a “sweet point.”…”

“…The LOD values of ciprofloxacin could be achieved at 10 −9 mol/L, and clear Raman characteristic peaks still were observed at the lowest concentration, which was better than the results reported in the literature. Based on the literature, the Raman spectral vibration peaks in ciprofloxacin were assigned and identified [30,31]. For example, the characteristic peak in the 635-695 cm −1 range was due to the out-of-plane vibrations of the ring.…”

“…It can provide unique fingerprint information of analyte molecules in a short time [11]. Usman et al prepared slippery-SERS substrates to detect NOR [12]. However, the low repeatability of SERS detection is still a current concern.…”
