Facile Synthesis of Highly Crystalline and Large Areal Hexagonal Boron Nitride from Borazine Oligomers

Abstract: A novel and facile synthetic method for h-BN films from borazine oligomer (B3N3H4)x precursors has been developed. This method only includes spin-coating of borazine oligomer onto nickel catalysts and a subsequent annealing step. Large areal and highly crystalline h-BN films were obtained. The stoichiometric B/N ratio of borazine oligomer precursor was preserved in the final h-BN product such that it was close to 1 as revealed by XPS. Catalytic effect of nickel for h-BN formation was clearly demonstrated by lo… Show more

“…By transferring the h-BN layer on a Si substrate assisted by poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), Raman spectra were recorded and shown in Figure S2b. The characteristic peak located at ∼1372 cm –1 confirmed the monolayer of h-BN film. , The LPCVD system for h-BN coating on Cu NWs was setup as schematically shown in Figure a, and the processes of encapsulation were conducted as follows. First, the Cu NW was imprinted onto target substrates such as quartz glass or sapphire and placed side-by-side with the borazane precursor in a quartz boat.…”

“…Park et al have used the borazine oligomer as a precursor for the synthesis of highly crystalline hBN films on a metal catalyst. 44 Since the borazine oligomer can be easily coated with controlled thickness on a variety of catalytic substrates and can have a higher thermal stability compared with conventionally used ammonia borane, highly crystalline large area hBN films were obtained with the stoichiometric B/N ratio close to 1 at ∼1000 °C.…”
