Facile synthesis of mesoporous titanium dioxide doped by Ag-coated graphene with enhanced visible-light photocatalytic performance for methylene blue degradation

Abstract: A highly efficient and elaborately structured visible-light-driven catalyst composed of mesoporous TiO2 (MT) doped with Ag+-coated graphene (MT-Ag/GR) has been successfully fabricated by a sol–gel and solvothermal method.

“…Ag 2 O/GO/TiO 2 composite nanoparticles were synthesized through the sol-gel method according to a process reported by Xiao et al [54] as follows: Firstly, 5 g of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the precursor of TiO 2 was added into 30 mL of ethanol and kept under continuous stirring. Secondly, 25 mL of a butyl titanate solution was separately dissolved in 5o mL of absolute ethanol and added into the obtained CTAB solution at a rate of one drop every 3 s. Thirdly, a solution containing 7 mg of assynthesized Ag 2 O nanoparticles in 5 mL of absolute ethanol and another solution containing 20 mg of as-purchased graphene oxide in 10 mL of ethanol were prepared and after 1 h was slowly added to the above solution.…”

“…Graphene is a hexagonal honeycomb material formed by densely packed carbon atoms on a twodimensional plane. It has outstanding optical, electrical, and mechanical properties, such as fast carrier mobility and high optical transparency [35][36][37][38]. In the far-infrared and terahertz band, a striking feature of graphene unlike traditional precious metals is that its surface plasmon resonance (SPR) has an extremely strong field confinement and lower ohmic loss.…”
