Facile Synthesis of Silver Chloride Nanocubes and Their Derivatives

Abstract: We demonstrate a facile route to synthesize silver chloride nanocubes and derivative nanomaterials. For the synthesis of silver chloride nanocubes, silver nitrate and hydrochloric acid were used as precursors in ethylene glycol, and poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) as a surfactant. Molar ratio of the two precursors greatly influenced the morphology and composition of the final products. As-synthesized silver chloride nanocubes showed size-dependent optical properties in the visible region of light, which is likely due… Show more

“…The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) bands show a maximum of absorption at 450 nm corresponding to Ag when the volume is 1 to 5 ml. The synthesis performed with 8 ml of extract shows a wider band at 460 nm because there are larger NPs, as well as an absorption band located at 380 nm, which is characteristic of AgCl [4]. The inset in Fig.…”

“…The Ag-NPs were synthesised by reduction of 1 mM silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ) with 2 mM sodium borohydride (NaBH 4 ) in the presence of 200 mg L À1 polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). PVP coated AgCl-NPs were prepared according to the method by Kim et al (2010) in ethylene glycol and were resuspended in water after centrifugation. The NPs were characterised by dynamic light scattering (DLS; NICOMP 380 ZLS, Particle Sizing Systems, FL, USA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM; Quanta 450 FEG ESEM, FEI Company, OR, USA).…”
