Facile synthesis of zwitterionic surfactant‐assisted molybdenum oxide/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite with enhanced photocatalytic and antimicrobial activities

Abstract: Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was synthesized by chemical reduction method and molybdenum oxide (MoO 3 ) was synthesized by sol-gel method, separately. Molybdenum oxide/reduced graphene oxide (MoO 3 /rGO) nanocomposite was synthesized by sol-gel method followed by sonication method in the presence of zwitterionic surfactant, myristyl sulfobetaine (SB3-14) at its critical micelle concentration. The optical properties of nanocomposite were studied by calculating the bandgap. The average crystallite size of the na… Show more

“…The average crystallite size of Nd 2 O 3 nanoparticles was found between 6.0 and 18.5 nm and is smaller than the particle size reported in literature. [40][41][42] The Nd 2 O 3 nanoparticles prepared using NaOH showed the highest photocatalytic activity against MB due to a lower band gap value which may be due to (a) photocatalysis and (b) dye sensitization) [55,66] and a smaller average crystallite size, while stability with of Nd 2 O 3 nanoparticles was found more when prepared by using the plant extracts due to capping of phytochemicals as proposed in the mechanism.…”

“…[5][6][7] Recently, incorporation of TiO₂ with low-bandgap semiconductor CdS has become one of the most important chalcogenide materials with a bandgap lying in the visible region ($2.42 eV) at room temperature, which is used in many applications such as solar cells, light emitted diodes, optoelectronic devices, and photocatalysts. [8][9][10][11] Various researchers have already proposed that composites based on CdS and TiO₂ could improve photocatalytic performance because of low recombination rates. [12,13] Although these types of composites showed enhanced photodegradation performance.…”
