“…The challenges that limit the development of effective management strategies in FM were highlighted in several studies. These challenges can be summarized as follows: (i) controlling multiple maintenance projects, (ii) integration of energy and workplace management, (iii) performance-based contracts, (iv) utilizing technological advances, (v) the lack of commissioning and hand over models, and (vi) outsourcing and service delivery [8][9][10][11].…”

“…NIBS (2017) aims to improve the performance of US buildings by reducing waste. To operationalize this mission, the NIBS supports the creation of open standards (Percivall 2011) linked to the global digitalization effort of construction project management (East, Nisbet & Liebich 2013). Thus, providing a mechanism for a significant contribution towards increased construction industry productivity improvement through an integrated construction project delivery process (Kenley & Harfield 2014).…”

“…In current practice, building information is typically handed over in large quantities of paper documents including O&M manual binders, 2D as-built drawings and record drawings (Wu and Issa, 2012). For contractors, the process of handing over building information includes mapping and gathering data for installed equipment, compiling the approved submittals and commissioning documents in binders and indexing the document sets within the binders for navigation purposes (William East et al, 2012). The inefficiency dominating this practice is twofold: the process is tedious, manual, labor-intensive and JFM 17,3 error-prone (Wu and Issa, 2012;Brooks and Lucas, 2014;Thabet et al, 2016) and the outcome documents are ineffective for utilization during the O&M phase of the building's life cycle (East and Nisbet, 2010;William East et al, 2012;Cavka et al, 2015).…”
