Facility managers' perceptions on building performance assessment

Abstract: During the operational phase, building performance may decrease in various areas, so that the end users' requirements are no longer met. Consequently, indicators are useful to assess and improve the performance of existing buildings. In this study, we carried out a literature review and organized a focus group with facility management experts to gather and analyze facility managers' perceptions on operational indicators that could be used to assess the performance of buildings. The results revealed that the co… Show more

The comfort of the building increases the quality of its function as a place of residence and activity while easy-to-apply maintenance has the ability to improve the comfort experienced in both the indoors and outdoors of a building [18,30,31,41]. This factor also aids human immunity to diseases including those associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.…”

“…However, it seems that FM-based OVS has not yet become an emerging topic within research fields related to FM and building performance evaluation. Though, several studies [2,[75][76][77] within these research fields highlighted the benefit of collecting and using occupant feedback in form of e.g. complaints to identify faults [76] or regular feedback to reveal sub-optimal operations [75,77].…”

“…Buildings with natural ventilation might lead to discomfort due to outside noises. Regarding space adequacy, occupant satisfaction is influenced by space characteristics including size, aesthetic appearance, furniture and cleanliness (Bortolini and Forcada, 2018b;Frontczak et al, 2012). Ergonomic furniture and enclosed rooms for meetings and collaborative work are examples of factors that help ensure users' functional comfort at work (Vischer, 2008).…”
