Factor Effect on Material Removal Rate During Phosphate Laser Glass Polishing

Abstract: In this work, the effects of different process parameters on the material removal rate (MRR) of phosphate laser glass during ring polishing had been investigated. Experiments were performed on a ring polishing machine that had a pad diameter of 4.4 m, and the MRR was obtained by the measurements of depth reduction of a groove on phosphate glass sample. The experimental results and analyses showed that size of the abrasive particles and the ceria concentration had significant effects on the polishing rate. The … Show more

“…Robotic polishing is used by the companies Safran (formerly Sagem) [12] and Zeiss Semiconductor Technologies [13]. Commercial production machines are available for smaller optics [14,15]. The company Coherent (formerly tin-Sley) uses a gantry portals approach as a polishing machine [16].…”

“…6,7 The form accuracy in deterministic polishing is generally related to kinematic accuracy of machine, reliability of surface data acquisition, generation of tool path, selection of machining parameters and so on. [8][9][10] Several studies have been conducted to improve the performances, such as preferable efficiency and less edge effect, in polishing. Cao and Cheung 11 carried out an in-depth research on contact mechanics, wear mechanisms and theory of kinematics in bonnet polishing to reach an insight of material removal characteristics.…”
